![]() Need to figure out how to put this into a table or something. There is different metadata/information available depending on the receiving device type (aTV vs AE vs other). From what I’ve seen here and in other threads, there is different control behavior depending on which device is streaming the music (iOS vs tvOS vs HomePod…OS?), and which device(s) are receiving the music. I think I might start an AirPlay function matrix document to try and lay all this out, and put it on GitHub or something. It’s hard to know what’s maybe a bug in an integration and what’s an “AirPlay” limitation. Also very disappointing because I was hoping to make an all-AirPlay setup, but if other people can’t control zone volumes if they didn’t start the music, that’s a major You clearly know a lot about the underlying protocols because you’ve helped implement integrations, but to most people it’s just “Airplay”, and I can speak from experience when I say that it’s really confusing what AirPlay does and doesn’t support in different combinations. I never knew that either, but that explains some other behavior I was struggling with about a month ago. which means you can stream music from farther away. You cannot change volume for someone else that is streaming). So while the Airport is creating a network, there is no internet access, but you are getting a stronger signal than BT. Think of it like your home network, when your computer shows you are connected to your network, but internet is not working. The thing to remember is that WiFi is a signal, not the internet. WiFi can go to about 300' with the right router. BUT, when you are streaming MP3's, which are compressed files, it's almost a wash. BT signal compresses music, WiFi does not. Running speaker wire is a lot easier than running power, and it can take getting wet, not that you want it to īT is lower quality, but a crappy pair of speakers using wifi can make BT using good speakers seem great. So my solution was I bought an Amp (link below) plugged an Airport into it, and ran speaker wire from the amp out to where I needed it. AirPort Express is compatible with powered speakers connected to the audio minijack. In AirPort Utility, follow the onscreen instructions to set up your wireless device. On your Mac, click the Wi-Fi status icon in the menu bar and choose the device. I have outdoor speakers in my backyard, but did not have power to use BT in the area I wanted. Plug your device’s power plug into an electrical outlet. So you just use 3.5mm to RCA, 3.5mm, or whatever you need to go into the Input of the speaker device, in this case the radio. Step 4: Open up Airport Utility and it should see the Airport Express and ask you to configure it. Step 3: On your Mac, in the wireless dropdown menu, look for something like New Airport Network. The airport has a 3.5mm output on the back. Step 2: Hold down the reset button for a while, until it starts blinking orange rapidly. ![]() (they do not make those anymore from what I was told, but really awesome item) On the boat, it will be through 3.5mm to RCAs straight in my EQ, which is what you would do for your HSE. ![]() The music is going from my phone/ipod TO the airport, the airport is connected to the car through the 3.5mm AUX input. On my next build I am going to use a slightly different power supply, where I can remove the cord if need be. ^^^^those are actually the instructions I used. A new airport runs 100, but I didn't want to break a new airport if I failed on my first attempt I bought a used airport on eBay and the power supply converter on eBay for about 60 bucks. I guess if they were popular I could build them. I believe there are apps that allow android to run AirPlay. Plug your device’s power plug into an electrical outlet. It worked great, but the delay bothered me, just being picky I suppose.ĪirPlay is good if you run an iPhone or iPod for your boat music. Use AirPlay to play music through an AirPort Express: Connect an audio cable from your stereo to the audio minijack on your AirPort Express. I have one and my only complaint was there is a slight delay in response time from the air enabler and what you do (I.e change track, there is a 1 second delay, or change volume from your phone, a slight delay). ![]() You can go a different eaiser route if you google AirEnabler, it does the same thing for about 50bucks.and already runs off USB. We tried the inverter, by you get noise through the audio.
